HOUSE BILL 243

 

AN ACT TO ALLOW MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ELECT TO RECEIVE A LOWER MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT SO AS TO NOT EXCEED THE STANDARD MILEAGE RATE FOR BUSINESS USE SET BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 120-3.1 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(d)      In lieu of the rate per mile allowed to State employees for travel, members of the General Assembly may elect to be reimbursed at twenty-four cents (24¢) per mile for the first 15,000 miles and eleven cents (11¢) per mile for the excess.  To be effective for a calendar year, an election must be made no later than December 20 of the preceding year.  The election shall be made on a form prescribed by the Legislative Services Office, and shall be irrevocable for the calendar year."

Sec. 2.  This act is effective upon ratification.
