HOUSE BILL 1220

 

 

AN ACT TO AMEND G.S. 135-14 AND TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO EXTEND PENSIONS TO CERTAIN TEACHERS AND STATE EMPLOYEES.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  The first sentence of G.S. 135-14 is rewritten to read:

"Any person who was a teacher or employee of North Carolina, as defined in G.S. 135-1, for a total of 20 or more years, whose separation from service as a teacher or employee prior to April 1, 1956, was not due to any dishonorable cause, and who had an attained age of 65 prior to July 1, 1960, or by reason of physical disability was unable to work on that date, shall upon application be paid a benefit of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per month."

Sec. 2.  G.S. 135-14 is further amended by rewriting the last sentence of the first paragraph to read:

"This section shall apply only to a former teacher or employee who was a resident of North Carolina on July 1, 1960, or the date of application for benefit pursuant to this section."

Sec. 3.  There is appropriated from the General Fund for the fiscal year 1979-80 the sum of one thousand eight hundred dollars ($1,800) to the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System, Department of State Treasurer, to provide for the funding of this act.

Sec. 4.  This act shall become effective July 1, 1979.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified, this the 8th day of June, 1979.
