HOUSE BILL 634

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF TRANSPORTATION TO ADMINISTER FEDERAL PROGRAMS RELATING TO MASS TRANSPORTATION.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

Section 1.  G.S. Chapter 136 is hereby amended by adding a new Article 2B to read as follows:

"ARTICLE 2B.

"Mass Transportation.

"§ 136-44.20.  The Board of Transportation is hereby designated as the agency of the State of North Carolina responsible for administering all federal programs relating to mass transportation, and the board is hereby granted the authority to do all things required under applicable federal legislation to administer properly the federal mass transportation programs within the State of North Carolina. Nothing herein shall be construed to prevent a political subdivision of the State of North Carolina from applying for and receiving direct assistance from the United States government under the provisions of any applicable federal legislation."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
