SENATE BILL 476

 

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE PURCHASE OF AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE BY MINORS AND TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH PURCHASE SHALL BE AS BINDING AS IF SAID MINOR HAD ATTAINED THE AGE OF TWENTY-ONE YEARS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Article 13 of Chapter 20 of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by adding a new Section at the end thereof to be designated as Section 20‑309.1, and to read as follows:

"§ 20-309.1.  Any minor 18 years of age or over shall be competent to contract for automobile insurance of any kind, to enter into an agreement to finance such insurance, to execute a power of attorney in connection with such financing, and also to execute a power of attorney in connection with an application for insurance with the Assigned Risk Plan, to the same extent and with the same effect as though he had attained the age of 21 years."

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall be in full force and effect upon ratification.
