AN ACT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A BIRD SANCTUARY ON ROANOKE ISLAND.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Roanoke Island, located in Dare County, is hereby declared a bird sanctuary.

Sec. 2. The protection of this Act shall not extend to any birds classified as predatory by the Wildlife Resources Commission in the General Statutes of North Carolina.

Sec. 3. It shall be unlawful for any person to hunt, kill or trap, or attempt to hunt, kill or trap any birds within the territorial limits of Roanoke Island; provided, however, that those areas of marsh on Roanoke Island where water fowl is hunted in open season are exempt from the provisions of this Act. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not more than fifty dollars ($50.00), or imprisoned for not more than 30 days.

Sec. 4. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
