AN ACT TO EXTEND THE AUTHORITY FOR APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL JUDGES OF THE SUPERIOR COURT.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 7-54 is hereby amended to read as follows:

"G.S. 7-54.  Special Judges. The Governor of North Carolina may appoint eight persons to be Special Judges of the Superior Court of the State of North Carolina. The Special Judges shall take the same oath of office and otherwise be subject to the same requirements and disabilities as are or may be prescribed by law for Judges of the Superior Court, save the requirement of residence in a particular district. The initial appointments made under this Act shall be to terms of office beginning July 1, 1963. These terms of office shall expire June 30, 1967. As the terms of office of the Special Judges expire, the Governor may appoint successors for terms of four (4) years each."

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
