SENATE BILL 79

 

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE PORTS AUTHORITY SHALL SERVE OVERLAPPING TERMS OF SIX YEARS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 143‑216, as it appears in the 1959 Supplement to Volume 3B of the General Statutes, is amended:

(a)        By striking from line 5 of that Section the date "June, 1953" and inserting in lieu thereof the date "July, 1961"; and

(b)        By striking from that Section the third and fourth sentences (beginning with the words "The members of" and ending with the words four years each.") and substituting in lieu thereof the following new sentences:

"Of the nine members appointed in 1961, three shall be appointed for terms of two years each, three shall be appointed for terms of four years each, and three shall be appointed for terms of six years each; thereafter, all regular appointments shall be for terms of six years."

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its ratification.
